Aging and Oral Health: Denture Care
At Artistic Touch Dentistry, we’re in the business of preventing tooth loss. We know that nothing maintains the function and physiology of the mouth, jaw, and soft tissue like natural teeth. But when tooth loss occurs and dental implants aren’t an option, denture care becomes a part of total oral health. Loss of teeth doesn’t mean the days of visiting the dentist are over! If you find yourself with dentures, here are some tips for denture care:
- Avoid breaks and cracks by handling dentures carefully. Because drops happen, it’s wise to handle dentures over a sink filled with water or over a folded napkin on a table.
- Brush daily to remove food particles and prevent color stains.
- But brush with special equipment! Use denture cleaners (not toothpaste) to avoid discoloration or damage.
- Denture materials are made for you mouth, where they’re kept moist. If you remove the dentures, make sure you replicate the moist environment so they don’t dry out and crack.
And be sure to keep up your appointments with Dr. Maryam Brazdo. Our Melbourne FL dentists will ensure your dentures are fitting properly and all of your soft tissue is in excellent shape.
