Bad Brushing Habits That Can Harm Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth is something you have been doing since you could hold a toothbrush but we want to make sure you are using the right technique when brushing your teeth.

If you don’t brush long enough then you may not be thoroughly cleaning your teeth. It is recommended that you brush your teeth for two or three minutes. This can be a challenge when you are in a hurry, rushing to get to work or can’t wait to go to bed. You Beauty suggests you use an egg timer or an electric toothbrush to time yourself when you begin brushing.

You Beauty also advises you to, “look in the mirror while you brush your teeth and see where the brush is actually going. It’s easy to miss the area right at the gum line, which is the most important part. That’s where plaque, tartar and bacteria can build up, which cause the gums to become inflamed and infected. Also keep a close eye on the back molars. If the brush head hits your cheek before you get to them you could miss them completely.”

Another mistake you may be making is not using the right technique when brushing your teeth. Make sure to hold the brush so the bristles are at a 45-degree angle to the surface of the teeth and brush in small circles. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Maryam Brazdo or Dr. Janice Wahl at Artistic Touch Dentistry for an annual teeth cleaning to make sure you are brushing your teeth correctly.
