Chewing tobacco and your dental health

Chewing tobacco and your dental health

At Artistic Touch Dentistry, we’re committed to your healthy smile and we encourage healthy preventive practices. Brushing, flossing, and regular cleanings are essential to excellent oral care. But there are also substances to avoid. One of the worst substances for your oral health is chewing tobacco.

According to MouthHealthy.org, chewing tobacco can harm a person’s health because it contains toxins, which can cause gum disease. Other possible oral health impacts of tobacco products include: stained teeth and tongue; dulled sense of taste and smell; slow healing after a tooth extraction or other surgery; difficulties in correcting cosmetic dental problems; and oral cancer.

The consequences of chewing tobacco can be severe. If you’ve got a tobacco chewing habit, consider switching to gum or another mouth-friendly substance to replace the oral habit. If you have questions about chewing tobacco and your dental health, contact us today.
