We encourage your to floss your teeth twice a day and while it’s extremely common for people to neglect spending time flossing their teeth, it can have a number of benefits on your oral health.
“By flossing daily, you help remove plaque from the areas between your teeth where the toothbrush can’t reach. This is important because plaque that is not removed by brushing and flossing can eventually harden into calculus or tartar. Flossing also helps prevent gum disease and cavities,” the American Dental Association explains.
Does it matter what type of floss you use? Normally, I just use whatever the dentist gives me after my visit but after a visit home I noticed my mother used waxed floss. It made me wonder: is there a difference?
“Some waxed flosses claim to have additional beneficial properties, such as essential oils or enzymes, meant to make the floss even more effective at removing plaque; but any floss will do, as long as you use it daily,” the experts at Oral B explained. I did find the waxed floss to be bigger and it was easy to use in the larger spaces between my teeth but when it came to my teeth that were closer together regular floss worked better.
It doesn’t matter what time of floss you use as long as you floss. If you find using traditional floss difficult then consider the hand held flossers.
