Made In China? I Don’t Think So
One thing I don’t usually may too much attention to is where certain products are made but we would advise you too look a little closer when it comes to having dental work done.
Some people boycott buying products that aren’t made in the United States and I fully support buying local for certain things, but sometimes I don’t even question the location of where something has been produced. This is completely the case when it comes to the dentist. I trust that these professionals are using the best products that are available to them. This isn’t always the case, but it is at Artistic Touch Dentistry.
A lot of the dentists and corporate dental practices have “specials” on crowns for $500. This should raise a red flag for you. Anything that is “on sale” or seems cheaper than it should be, avoid it. These cheap crowns are being made overseas in order to reduce costs. However, the regulations in China are not as strict as they are here in the United States. These made in China crowns are poor quality and some were even found to contain lead in them.
There are certainly places to scrimp and save money but don’t let it be with something as important as dental crowns. Although the FDA does have regulations for importing dental prostheses into the USA, the enforcement is limited. So before you go along blindly with what your dentist puts into your mouth ask them these four questions:
- Do you use a Certified Dental Technician for your laboratory work?
- Is the laboratory you work with certified?
- Where is your dental laboratory located?
- What materials are in the restorations you are prescribing for my treatment plan?
