Reclassification of commonly prescribed pain medicines effective TODAY
At Artistic Touch Dentistry, we strive you bring you dental news that could affect your care. As of today, October 6th, the United States Drug Enforcement Agency made official a change that reclassified hydrocodone combination products and subjects them to tighter restrictions.
Often prescribed for dental pain, hydrocodone combination products including opioids such as Vicodin, Lorcet, Lortab and Norco, have been reclassified as Schedule II substances, effective today. The DEA says the reclassification will protect public health and safety by reducing the potential for abuse, from both users and prescribers (such as dentists) in regulating these addictive pain medicines.
While we can still prescribe these medications as needed, Dr. Maryam Brazdo and the team at Artistic Touch Dentistry attempt to control dental pain through preventive maintenance. When medications are required, we’ll be sure to manage your care according to the new classification schedule.
