Fear of the dentist is probably one of the most common fears people experience whether it’s a temporary feeling or a chronic one but our doctors at Artistic Touch Dentistry will provide the gentlest touch when it comes to your teeth.
I have never had an extreme fear of going to dentist, except for one incident when I had to have sealants put on my teeth and I was convinced they were just going to start drilling. Of course, this was just the fear of a 12 year old that had seen many things happen to her sister at the dentist. But Dentophobia is a real condition that affects more patients then you would think. WedMD reported that between 5% and 8% of Americans avoid dentists out of fear.
If you are one of those people who are afraid of the dentist, I have the solution for you: go to the dentist. My mother hates going to the dentist for some unknown reason. In fact, every time she hears the word she reacts as if I have uttered something terrible. When she finally does go because of pain or a bothersome tooth she is told she has to have a tooth pulled or a root canal. This only perpetuates her fear of going because every time she does she has to have some procedure done.
I, on the other hand, go to the dentist twice a year. I have never had a cavity and I have never had any problems concerning my teeth. By going to the dentist twice a year you allow the dentist ample time to fix any problems that you have. This will prevent further damage down the road and hopefully you can avoid costly procedures like root canals and tooth extractions.
So when you are thinking of avoiding the dentist because you just don’t like it, think of how much more painful it will be when you find yourself with a serious problem a few months from now. Call our office at 321.724.1400 to book an appointment with us.
